Let's go for a ride with the Aurora
Scooterists tomorrow. Here's the details:
2-Dam Hot Prairie Invitational Ride:
This is our first invitational event. Anyone may come whether in our
club or not and whether in any other club. In fact all are invited. This
is a 30-mile ride. We meet at Aurora's new City Hall (15151 E Alameda Pkwy,
Aurora) in the west parking lot close to the large sculpture at 10 a.m.
From there we head east on Alameda, north on Chambers to 6th Ave. and
east from there until it becomes Gun Club Rd. Then we go east on Quincy
to the reservoir road intersection. Arriving first, I will meet you at
the admission booth where I will exchange a park pass with you for $2
per scooter (group rate). Once we are together, we will head east to the
dam. We will look out upon the water then leave eventually heading west
on Quincy to Parker Rd., north on Parker to Vaughn Way and upon exiting
a left turn gets us on the Dam road where we can ride across the dam
ending our event at the high school parking lot at the end of the dam
road. We believe that Channel-8 (Aurora Access TV) will cover some part
of this event. Please invite all scooter owners you know. It may be hot.
Bring sun screen, plenty of water, snacks, and head cover. Hope you can
make it. John McNeely
ALSO!
Remember to block out August 28 on your calendar.
We're going to Scoot the Vote and buzz the Democratic National. Here's
the details: August 28, 2008 beginning at 6 p.m. there will be a ride
through downtown Denver for the last night of the Democratic National
Convention. There will be prizes for the best political t-shirt and most
creatively decorated scooter. Afterwards join us at Erico for food and
drink, compliments of The Spicy Pickle as we watch history unfold on the
big screen. If you want, bring a $10 donation fee to the event with 100%
of the proceeds going to Mayor Hickenlooper's "Denver's Road
Home" to end homelessness.
ADDED JULY 4, 2008
Greetings and
Happy
Fourth of July! I'm going to host an impromptu "race"
downtown on Sunday morning. It'll all be perfectly legal (unless you
decide to go faster than the posted speed limit). You'll be racing
against the clock to see how fast you can photograph you, your
scooter, and ten famous landmarks in the city. You'll need a scooter
(all engine sizes are fine), a digital camera or the camera on your
phone, and you might need a map unless you're familiar with everything
downtown. You can race on your own, with somebody on the back of your
scooter, or in groups, whatever. Prizes will be totally lame-o, but
we'll have a few laughs anyway and we may award them based on style
rather than speed. We'll see. You need to RSVP by e-mail before Sunday morning so I
know how many race forms to print. We'll meet at a top secret location
somewhere in downtown around 9 a.m. on July 6 and I'll send that info
to you via e-mail as well. Let's see who is the best urban scooter street racer
this Sunday. RSVP: thedenverscooterclub@colorado.usa.com

Sunday might be a great day to go
hang out
downtown on a scooter eh?
Here's a blurb out of the SQREAM newsletter.
PrideFest
Parade Update Wow!
We have 40 scooterists so far who have replied to the Evite for the
parade. This could be a new SQREAM record! If you have not RSVP'd on the
Evite, please do so Chuck and Bill can plan to have enough donuts and
water on hand.
Our
section is White 2 and our lineup time is 8:30 am but you may
arrive as early as 7:30. Bill and Chuck will be in the park at 7:45.
The only entrance to get into the park that morning is the the 11th
Avenue entrance. If you are not there by 8:45am, you will not be in
the parade. Slather on the sunscreen and bring plenty of water
to drink. It's suppose to be warm and sunny. We will have the Erico
truck with us blasting out great party tunes. Feel free to decorate your
scoot and yourself.
I'll
be marching in the parade on my stilts as Nuclia Waste. The Demented
Divas will be performing on the Main Stage at 1:15 pm. And Nuclia will
be the hostess at the Club Vinyl Climax Sunday Pride Party (1082
Broadway) from 5-8 pm.

at 2 p.m. on Saturday. These workshops are a great chance to learn about
your scooter, meet the staff at the shop, and be tempted by a few cool
things to buy. You'll be able to afford something new because you've
also stopped by for some free gasoline earlier in the day: FREE gas to
anyone that shows up on a scooter to Circle K, 1300 W Colfax from
10am-12noon! Thank you Erico!!
Sunday Ride
I'm planning on a ride almost every Sunday
this summer, but I'm replacing the deck on my house this weekend
and Tiger Woods is in the hunt for the U.S. Open and they're playing
game five of the NBA finals, so I'm out for this weekend. If you want to
lead a ride on Sunday, please drop a note onto the Erico
Scooter Forum and see who will go with you.
Scooter Shopping
After reading some un-cool posts on the ScooterBBS written by the owner
of Sportique Scooters, I would encourage you to consider your
alternatives when making scooter-related purchases. We
are lucky to be supported by Erico Motorsports where all
scooterists are treated with compassion and dignity and I personally
hope you show your support by doing business with Erico. The
Denver Scooter Club supports open-mindedness, SQREAM scooter club, and
scootering for everybody.

need to set up our ride calendar, make plans on how we can support the
scooter scene in Denver, and see who will volunteer for what. We'll keep

PERSONAL NOTE TO THE BRSC
Those of you who attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade ride saw the huge
turnout of vintage scooterists thanks to the annual efforts of the
Bottle Rocket Scooter Club. The scent of burning two-stroke oil wafted
through downtown for blocks and made following the whiskey truck all
that much more intoxicating. At the parade, the BRSC gave me what can only be
described as the funniest gift I've received in a long long time, and
after a mostly rotten winter, I'd like to say THANK
YOU for a great laugh. It's going to be a great summer.

About
Time To Get Back At It
Holy Cow, I'll need to be working a little harder to keep up with you
guys. I let the e-mail submission form thingymajig run without any
supervision and I think we have a couple dozen new members. I've been
slacking off and you guys are as fired up to go riding. I keep hoping
for a good Sunday to go grab coffee on a scooter with everybody, but
Mike Nelson and Kathy Sabine keep sending us rotten weather. Soon enough
we'll be back in business. In the meantime, stop by Erico and pick up
some business cards for The Denver Scooter Club and spread them
willy-nilly about the metro area. Let's make sure every scooterist knows
how many opportunities they have to connect with other scootering
fanatics in town.
St.
Patrick's Day Ride Leader Needed
Tai wants to have a big contingent of scooterists ride in the St.
Patrick's Day parade.
I need for YOU to volunteer to be one of the ride leaders for that day.
Drop me an e-mail if you're available on March 15th and I'll forward you
the basic information. Of course we want as many scooterists as possible
to show up so we can send warning to the community regarding our
impending take-over of the city.

Stop by Erico Motorsports and pick up a copy of its first-ever
magazine called E3. If you turn to the second page, you can see the
entire crews' bright and perty faces. If you're not that brave, you can

Scoot! magazines are available for you to borrow. E-mail me if
you want to meet up and borrow them for awhile.
There's another scooter club working to get going
out in Aurora. You can sign up for their site here.
They look like they're going to be a big success.
I probably just missed it, but you can download for free
an entire
booklet on safe scootering from the Motorcycle
Safety Foundation. The graphic on the front cover is worth the price
you pay for it.
Some of you may have seen the lone mopedder during the
Scoot for Toys run. Turns out it ran on electricity and was saving
the planet. See the entire Small
Planet E-Bikes lineup. It's a local business.
Speaking of mopeds, if you want to be the really
new urban hip, you gotta have pedals. Michele down at Erico Motorsports
has been working to build a moped riding group. If you need more
information from her, you can reach her at the store. 303-308-1811.
She's even hosting garage nights to get those critters running.
If you have a big scoot, with a little more
reliability, and a little less pedals, the Denver
Maxi Scooters forum may be more you style.
And we also have a very active scooter racing association.
Don't miss their forum here.
Word on the streets (and in magazines too) is that Stella
is on her way back to America from where REAL scooters come from, India.
Genuine Scooters hasn't made this claim on its website yet as far as I
can see, but Tai gave me a wonderful gift last month of one of these!
I'm hanging it in my garage for now, but I'll probably have some goofy
contest somewhere down the road for you to win it from me. For those of
you new to this mailing list, you can find the Stella Riders forum here.
In this video,
a man successfully combines bad fashion choices, a scooter, and beer,
and thereby accidentally becomes the embodiment of vintage scootering
everywhere. C'mon, don't get your feelings hurt, it's funny.

Where We've Been ... Where We're Going We began this journey back in 2005 when a half dozen Stella riders
met at Stella's Coffee Haus in Denver to go for a scooter ride up to
Evergreen. We spent the next two years taking our scooters on
long-distance rides. During summer of 2006 we hosted the largest
gathering of Stellas in history at the Amerivespa convention in Denver.
We have since elected to branch out of our original mission and we now
count riders of all types of scooters, mopeds and smaller displacement
two-wheelers among our membership. Our new calling is to create a fun,
safe, and helpful environment for all riders, regardless of who they
are, where they come from, and what they ride.
