FASHION MOTO TONIGHT

Cocktails at 8 p.m. Show begins at 9:30 p.m. at Erico.

Stay tuned for WAY more news coming soon! Welcome to those of you who signed up in the last couple of weeks. We're going to have a fun summer.

REMINDER! DSC "MEETING"
Bring your ideas for places you'd like to scoot this summer and your willingness to volunteer as a ride leader to our first ever organizational planning session. We need to set up our calendar, plan our fights with the other clubs, and think up excuses why we're unavailable on Sundays for yard work. We'll keep the meeting short and if enough people want to go for a ride, we'll pick a destination and head out.

WHO: Anybody with any type of scooter or moped.
WHAT: DSC planning meeting.
WHEN: April 6, at 10 a.m.
WHERE: Aviano Coffee at 955 Lincoln Street. http://www.avianocoffee.com/  Bring a couple bucks to buy a latté. This is one of my new favorite coffee houses.
WHY: Because staying at home practicing the ukulele will wait until the afternoon.
HOW: Big sidewalk out front ... probably okay to park your scooter there (I hope!)

I have lots of gossip to share ... so you'll hear about it first ... before I publish it on the website.

DANGER DANGER!!
VESPA "S" DRIVEN BY JO ON THE LOOSE
Jo Sempeck snagged the first-ever Vespa S available in Denver to add to the family fleet of gawd-knows-how-many two-wheeled vehicles. Stay out of her way, she'll run ya ovah. Photos soon, I hope.

AUTOMEZZI NEEDS YOUR PHOTOS
If you ride an ITALIAN-made scooter Automezzi Colorado needs quality photos of your Vespa or Lambretta for a publication they're assembling. Your scoot could be featured next to a Lamborghini ... or one of those three-wheeled Apes. Go to their contact page to e-mail Tish your pics. And check out the flyer she just e-mailed to me HERE.

SCARAB BAD SATURDAY RIDE
Many of you know Michele from Erico, or the Scarabs from Everywhere Else. Check out the Bad Saturday ride (for adults only). If the stories are true, this ride tends to be more about Sunday morning than Saturday night, and probably more suited to "experienced" scooterists, but check with Michele for more reliable truth. Here's the flyer.

DENVER SCOOTER CLUB "MEETING"
When I bought my scooter a few years ago, I planned to bring motorcycling zeitgeist to the activity. "No Damn Meetings," I promised myself. Now, years later, after attending lots and lots of scooter meetings, it's time for one more (sigh). We need to set up our ride calendar, make plans on how we can support the scooter scene in Denver, and see who will volunteer for what. We'll keep the meeting short and if enough people want to go for a ride, we'll pick a destination and head out.  We'll meet on Sunday, April 6, at 10 a.m. Location will be announced as soon as I figure it out.

SQREAM CALENDAR IS UP
Dave and SQREAM have uploaded their plans for the summer after their organizational meeting. I've listed the dates from their calendar here to help you plan, but the details can be found on their site. It's going to be a busy summer -- maybe the best in Denver scootering ever?

SCOOTER RACING
The MSRA posted their plans for the year and are worth checking out. They've added a "Novice" class for those who don't have racing experience. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/msra/

FUNNY VIDEO MODCHEN RECOMMENDS
Aimee's blog always hosts things I never see anyplace else. Here's a video she found on love. Of course, I've met a few scooterists around Denver who still believe Vespas are for jumping.

AND THIS FROM THE MAXI SCOOTERS
Here's a video you might want to pass along to everybody you know with an automobile. The gang over at Denver Maxi Scooters found it.

A PERSONAL NOTE TO THE BRSC
Those of you who attended the St. Patrick's Day Parade ride saw the huge turnout of vintage scooterists thanks to the annual efforts of the Bottle Rocket Scooter Club. The scent of burning two-stroke oil wafted through downtown for blocks and made following the whiskey truck all that much more intoxicating. At the parade, the BRSC gave me what can only be described as the funniest gift I've received in a long long time, and after a mostly rotten winter, I'd like to say THANK YOU for a great laugh. It's going to be a great summer.

This photo from Scooter Pam documents the sad and scary moments immediately prior to Suzi Miller punching an old man right in the face and making him cry. Ms. Miller is lead singer for Denver's most notorious musical band Suzi Homewreker

You'll need to remember that the permit is under the name "Denver Scooter Club" and we're in "Division Two Unit 2-74." SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!

If you've been neglecting your poor scooter like I have been, it's time to haul her out and get rid of her bad gas. This Sunday morning the weather is going to be okay, so let's have our first KISS of 2008. I spent three hours working on this logo, so wait until tomorrow to make fun of it. KISS stands for Kėwl Impromptū Skėwtering Sundays, and we'll have them whenever nothing better is going on in town.
For this first one, we'll meet at St. Mark's Coffeehouse 303-322-8384 (2019 E 17th Street, just east of Race) at 9 a.m. on Sunday, February 24. We'll hang out for awhile and if enough people want to go for a ride, we'll think one up, and if not, we'll head off on our day happy with a little scooter adventure and a muffin.

Thanks Kenny Davis!
Kenny has volunteered to lead the St. Patrick's parade crazies through the streets of downtown on a Stella with a sidecar! Make plans now to wear green, ride a scooter, and come down for the fun. We'll have coffee and probably some other fun stuff. Here's the St. Patrick's Day website.

Erico Motorsports News
Last weekend at the big motorcycle trade show in Indianapolis , Erico was awarded Dealer of the Year out of all the dealerships in the U.S.   It is the first time that a Euro-only dealer has ever won and the first time a non-Harley dealer has won in several years. Congrats to Team Erico.

Vespa Videos Made By Reg'lar Folk
These are pretty fun videos to watch. Have a look.

Mask Project
Most of you have seen the Mask Project that benefits Hospice each year at Cherry Creek mall. Erico entered a scooter-themed mask this year! The masks will be on display starting May 1st.

About Time To Get Back At It
Holy Cow, I'll need to be working a little harder to keep up with you guys. I let the e-mail submission form thingymajig run without any supervision and I think we have a couple dozen new members. I've been slacking off and you guys are as fired up to go riding. I keep hoping for a good Sunday to go grab coffee on a scooter with everybody, but Mike Nelson and Kathy Sabine keep sending us rotten weather. Soon enough we'll be back in business. In the meantime, stop by Erico and pick up some business cards for The Denver Scooter Club and spread them willy-nilly about the metro area. Let's make sure every scooterist knows how many opportunities they have to connect with other scootering fanatics in town.

St. Patrick's Day Ride Leader Needed
Tai wants to have a big contingent of scooterists ride in the St. Patrick's Day parade. I need for YOU to volunteer to be one of the ride leaders for that day. Drop me an e-mail if you're available on March 15th and I'll forward you the basic information. Of course we want as many scooterists as possible to show up so we can send warning to the community regarding our impending take-over of the city.

Calendar Updates
Most importantly, the calendar is beginning to take shape. Make sure to mark down the important events in your calendar and get those days off work. You need a fun day every now and again anyway.

Website Updates
I moved a bunch of stuff around on the website today. Probably made it more complicated and confusing. Let me know if you have suggestions on ways to make it better for you. I've only tested it on Internet Explorer, so if you're running something else, let me know if it looks weird. The background image comes from a wallpaper download from the British mod band called The Coopers.

Happy Holidays Everybody!

Here's some scooter stuff to keep you  warm.

Last Minute Shopping!
Thursday! Thursday! Swing on by Erico Motorsports for last minute shopping. They'll be open until 10 p.m. ... and they have cookies.

January 1, 2008 ... Who will make the summit this year?
All right, you're not doing anything on New Year's Day anyway except watching meaningless college football games and wondering what the hell happened the night before, so make plans now to join Bumble the Abominable Snowman and SQREAM to see if you have what it takes to make it to the top of Lookout Mountain. Pray for clear roads, clear weather, and brutally cold temperatures.

ScooterWorld
I received my latest edition of ScooterWorld in the mail last week and it's full of gift ideas (for yourself ... well, okay, and others.) It also makes a few of you famous with its Scoot for Toys photos. Pick it up in your usual places, or let me know if you want to see my copy.

Scoot!
I also received the latest Scoot! and guess what? Mopeds ARE cool. Ha ha! I told you guys! Only be a matter of time before we're setting up Moped Army parking areas. I'll drop a bunch of links out the magazine when I have some time. Let me know if you want to see my copy.

Blood Drive on December 27th.
Performance Cycle hosts a bi-monthly blood drive. It's a good way to give back to our community. Click on "news" for more info.

Scooter Relief Party on December 29th.
Scooter Relief is an organization born out of Hurricane Katrina and the organizers keep it running to help other scooterists out there with needs. They're having a fund raising drive and party. Here the info.

Congrats to the Aurora Scooterists
Sounds like John McNeely and Aurora Honda successfully orchestrated a photo-op with the Aurora city council. How's that for a little more scooter love?

ADDED DECEMBER 01, 2007
Let's tentatively plan on having breakfast on December 9th if the roads aren't awful. E-mail me suggestions on someplace yummy with scooter parking.

Stop by Erico Motorsports and pick up a copy of its first-ever magazine called E3. If you turn to the second page, you can see the entire crews' bright and perty faces. If you're not that brave, you can go to the Erico website and join the E3 scooterist discussion forum.

My recent copies of American Scooterist and the October Scoot! magazines are available for you to borrow. E-mail me if you want to meet up and borrow them for awhile.

There's another scooter club working to get going out in Aurora. You can sign up for their site here. They look like they're going to be a big success.

I probably just missed it, but you can download for free an entire booklet on safe scootering from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The graphic on the front cover is worth the price you pay for it.

Some of you may have seen the lone mopedder during the Scoot for Toys run. Turns out it ran on electricity and was saving the planet. See the entire Small Planet E-Bikes lineup. It's a local business.

Speaking of mopeds, if you want to be the really new urban hip, you gotta have pedals. Michele down at Erico Motorsports has been working to build a moped riding group. If you need more information from her, you can reach her at the store. 303-308-1811. She's even hosting garage nights to get those critters running.

If you have a big scoot, with a little more reliability, and a little less pedals, the Denver Maxi Scooters forum may be more you style.

And we also have a very active scooter racing association. Don't miss their forum here.

Word on the streets (and in magazines too) is that Stella is on her way back to America from where REAL scooters come from, India. Genuine Scooters hasn't made this claim on its website yet as far as I can see, but Tai gave me a wonderful gift last month of one of these! I'm hanging it in my garage for now, but I'll probably have some goofy contest somewhere down the road for you to win it from me. For those of you new to this mailing list, you can find the Stella Riders forum here

In this video, a man successfully combines bad fashion choices, a scooter, and beer, and thereby accidentally becomes the embodiment of vintage scootering everywhere. C'mon, don't get your feelings hurt, it's funny.

We had the biggest Scoot for Toys ride ever over the weekend. Our scootering community is growing so fast. How cool is it to have the Denver mayor show up?! I had a great time catching up with lots of people and meeting a few new ones. I've added a few photos to the history page.

I've got way more news on its way too; so much you better go chase down a stick to shake at it.

Wow! A great day and a great beginning for The Denver Scooter Club. We had a baker's dozen scooterists show up on all manner of transport. We had some caffeine, spun a few yarns, dreamed a little, and then headed in different directions. Some to Golden, some back home, and a few of us went and hung out with Mayor Hickenlooper and logged some quality Kurt Vonnegut time. Nothing like a little Ph.D.-approved literary pornography to complete a day of sniffing two-stroke oil. I've put a couple pictures up on the history page.

Scoot for Toys is Tomorrow! This is the BIG scooter event of the fall, so don't miss it! It's the fourth year for the ride already. Meet at Erico around 9 a.m. to hang out (and there is a rumor about coffee and bagels going around). Lunch will be provided by Bennett's BBQ again this year. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. You will receive a raffle ticket for every item donated for a chance to win a new Corazzo jacket. Prizes will also be awarded to the best decorated holiday scooter and scooterist! Jo has won this contest every year, so somebody PLEASE step up and teach her a lesson. Mayor Hickenlooper will be leading the ride this year and it all benefits Ronald McDonald house.

Where We've Been ... Where We're Going
We began this journey back in 2005 when a half dozen Stella riders met at Stella's Coffee Haus in Denver to go for a scooter ride up to Evergreen. We spent the next two years taking our scooters on long-distance rides. During summer of 2006 we hosted the largest gathering of Stellas in history at the Amerivespa convention in Denver. We have since elected to branch out of our original mission and we now count riders of all types of scooters, mopeds and smaller displacement two-wheelers among our membership. Our new calling is to create a fun, safe, and helpful environment for all riders, regardless of who they are, where they come from, and what they ride.
